FLORENCE

The city of Florence is the heart of the metropolitan area of Florence – Prato – Pistoia, a conurbation with more than 1 520 000 inhabitants.

In the Middle Ages it was an important artistic, cultural, commercial, political, economic and financial center. In the modern age it was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, from 1569 to 1859, with the government of the Medici and Lorraine families.

In 1865 Florence was proclaimed capital of the Kingdom of Italy (second, after Turin). The city maintained this status until 1871, the year that marked the end of the Risorgimento.

Important university center and UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is considered a place of origin of the Renaissance and is universally recognized as one of the cradles of art and architecture, as well as renowned as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, thanks to its numerous monuments and museums – including the Duomo, Santa Croce, Santa Maria Novella, the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti.

SIENA

The city is universally known for its huge historical, artistic, scenic heritage and for its substantial stylistic unity of medieval urban furniture, as well as for the famous Palio.

In 1995 its historic center was included by UNESCO in the World Heritage.

The city is home to the Monte dei Paschi di Siena bank, founded in 1472 and therefore the oldest bank in operation and the longest in the world.

SAN GIMIGNANO

located in the province of Siena in Tuscany. For the characteristic medieval architecture of its historic center it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site of San Gimignano, despite some eight-twentieth-century restorations, is mostly intact in the two-fourteenth century appearance and is one of the best examples of urban organization in the city in Europe .

Granted with Royal Decree April 29, 1936, San Gimignano boasts the title of City .

San Gimignano is especially famous for the medieval towers that still stand out on its panorama, which have earned it the nickname of Manhattan in the Middle Ages. Of the 72 towers and tower-houses, existing in the golden age of the Commune, there remained twenty-five in 1580 and today there remain fourteen, with other inexplicable scraps in the urban fabric. The oldest is the Rognosa tower, built in the early 13th century 1200. The highest is the Torre del Podestà, also called Torre Grossa, 54 meters long. A regulation of 1255 forbade private individuals to erect towers higher than the Rognosa tower (which at the time was the highest), even though the two most important families, Ardinghelli and Salvucci, built two slightly lower towers of almost equal size, to prove their power.

PISA

(ON REQUEST YOU CAN CHOOSE THE CITY OF PISA  YOU CAN VISIT THE FAMOUS THE PISA’S TOWER)

Pisa is an Italian town of 90 300 inhabitants, the capital of the homonymous province in Tuscany.

Pisa is the sixth Tuscan city by population, preceded by Florence, Prato, Livorno, Arezzo and Lucca. It is part of a territory with homogeneous characteristics, called the Pisan area, which with the neighboring municipalities of Calci, Cascina, San Giuliano Terme, Vecchiano and Vicopisano, reaches an urban system of about 195,000 inhabitants spread over 475 km² [4]. Moreover, with traffic exceeding 5 million passengers in 2017, Pisa is home to the most important airport in Tuscany, Galileo Galilei [5].

According to a legend, Pisa was founded by some mythical Greek refugees from the homonymous Greek city of Pisa, located near Olympia in the valley of the river Alfeo [6], in the Peloponnese. This is why the Pisans are also called alpheus.

Among the most important monuments of the city there is the famous Piazza del Duomo, called Piazza dei Miracoli, declared World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral built between 1063 and 1118 in Pisan Romanesque style and the Leaning Tower, bell tower of the twelfth century, today one of the most famous Italian monuments in the world because of its characteristic inclination.

The city is home to three of the most important university institutions in Italy and Europe, the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, as well as the largest headquarters of the National Research Council ( CNR) and other numerous research institutes.

The city of Pisa in the past was an important maritime republic.
